Chlorosis
Chlorosis is the yellowing of leaves due to a lack of chlorophyll. This can be caused by nutritional deficiencies such as Iron, soil pH problems, drainage problems or drought. Chlorosis often affects Oak, Birch and Maple trees as well as others.
What is Chlorosis?
Chlorosis is a condition that occurs when a lack of maganese or iron, imbalanced pH or watering issues cause a trees leaves to fade and turn yellow due to a lack of chlorophyll
What are the symptoms of Chlorosis?
– Slow growth of tree
– Yellowing of leaves and leaf loss, beginning with pale green to yellow to pale yellow or white as the disease progresses
– Twig and branch die back
– Eventual death of tree
How is Chlorosis treated?
– Trees should be treated with trunk injections and soil applications of minerals and nutritional supplements
– Foliage spray for temporary alleviation of symptoms
– Properly drained soils are also helpful in prevention
– Soil testing and adjustments of pH levels
– Adding compost and organic matter at the base of the tree to provide nutrients to roots
